For Ka-chan, because she so kindly requested "Ginji in the shower"...
The sky on the eastern horizon was the most delicious blur of Ginji's favorite colors as he gazed out the window of their 4th floor apartment. The sun was just beginning to lighten the grey-blue sky to cotton candy rose, sending ribbons of gold to cascade over the city, glinting and refracting off the glass of the skyscrapers all around, bouncing the light from one plane to the next. Sometime in the night they had shifted from the hard floor to the more relative softness of the bed, and Ginji slipped as quietly as he could from between the sheets to pad lightly across the wooden floor to the bathroom. He glanced over his shoulder and smiled at the sleeping form in the bed and hummed the beginning of his favorite song under his breath. "Semari ikaru konnantte mon jyanai..." Inside the bathroom, he closed the door gently behind him and peered into the somewhat dirty mirror. Seeing as last night had been their second night in the new place, they hadn't gotten around to doing much of anything with it yet. Between the streaks of smudgy dirt Ginji stared at his own face for a moment as he continued to sing under his breath. It never ceased to surprise him how much happier his own reflection seemed than it had in the past. "Futari no tame ni sora to daichi ga ugokita..." "Shakariki na hi yo come back..." He slid open the glass door of the shower, wincing as it squeaked for a moment in its runner, and reached out a hand to the faucet. He wrapped his hand around the cool metal, turning it abruptly and then lifting his hand to let the water run over it until it turned warm. He slipped into the stall, sliding the door shut a little more carefully to avoid the squeak and then stepped under the stream of water. "Mafuyu no umi ni nageta misanga... Oto mo tatezuni kieteshimau no ne..." he sang a little more clearly as he tilted his head back, letting the water run over his face and slide down his body. Truly, there were only a few tangible things that Ginji really reveled in... pocky was certainly one, and ice cream another... but he didn't think he even loved either of those things as much as he loved water, wind and, of course, lightning. Standing in the shower with the water pounding around him sent his mind tumbling back to the first time he'd ever seen the ocean. One warm summer day just after they'd finished a fairly successful job, Ban had simply told him to get in the car; they were going for a drive. "Bouhatei makkani moeru go go..." Oh, how he had absolutely reveled in the sight - the water stretching out and out and out until it met the satin blue sky as if the world simply fell off the edge into a waterfall he couldn't see. He had tumbled in the waves for hours and hours, laughing and singing, not caring how many times he was tossed and ground into the sandy shore. When he had finally crawled back to where Ban sat on a blanket reading a book, he had simply burst into tears, babbling quite incoherently his thanks. And Ban, as always, had simply smiled and nodded. Even now, Ginji laughed at the memory, turning around and around under the water and splashing it against the walls of the shower as he did so. "Namida spangle mitai ni kirei de...konna ni dakara sou waratte furimuichadame...Sa ikuwa yo!" So lost was he in his own revelry, he did not hear the door of the bathroom creak open as he continued to sing, all the while getting louder and louder until his voice matched the tumbling cascade of the water around him. "Arashini dakarete yumekara jump...eien ga oshiyoseru I love..." "Singing about me again?" Ginji jumped, nearly slipping, and reached out to wipe the steam away from the glass doors. "Ban-chan!" he exclaimed. "I didn't even hear you!" "Between the water and the singing..." Ban started and for a moment Ginji frowned guiltily knowing he had woken him, but Ban's slight smile made him realize he was just being teased. "I'm sorry I got carried away, Ban-chan..." he started. "You don't ever need to apologize to me for being happy, Ginji..." Ban chuckled as he peered at him through the steamy glass. "Mind if I join you?" Even though it was nowhere near the first time they'd been unclothed together, Ginji still blushed from head to toe, averting his eyes as Ban slid the glass open until they came to light on Ban's feet. "Ban-chan! You do like my present!" he exclaimed gleefully, his head snapping up. Indeed, the bunny slippers were the single item of clothing Ban was wearing, and it amused Ginji to no end. "My feet were cold..." Ban muttered as he slipped them off and stepped into the shower, but he was grinning. "I'm so glad..." Ginji started, his eyes shining as he reached to push the wet hair out of his face. Ban stared at Ginji as the water started to flatten his own hair, thinking he could quite possibly never tire of this sight. Ginji was still humming cheerfully, bouncing from one foot the other, oblivious to the water dripping out of his blond hair to roll like tears over his cheeks and down his chest... Ginji might have been oblivious to the water, but he certainly wasn't oblivious to the way Ban was gazing at him, or the way his friend looked as the water brought his dark hair to curl around his face. "I love the water, Ban-chan..." he enthused as Ban brought his hands up on either side of Ginji's shoulders to rest against the tiled wall and took a step closer. "Maybe sometime when it gets warmer we can go back to that beach?" "Sure, Ginji..." Ban smiled slowly, leaning even closer as Ginji opened his mouth to say something else and then clamped it shut again at the hungry look in Ban's eyes. Ginji's eyes drifted shut as Ban closed the remaining distance between them and their mouths met in a kiss that was far more deep and demanding than the few they'd exchanged the night before. Ginji tangled his fingers in Ban's damp hair as Ban trailed a line of kisses down his neck, stopping to nip at his ear. "Ban-chan..." he murmured and Ban chuckled softly. Ban lifted his hands from the wall to set them on Ginji's hips, pulling him close until their slick bodies were pressed together and they stumbled backwards under the stream of water again. This time it was Ginji who let his hands slip from Ban's hair to cradle his face, kissing him again and again as the water beat down on their heads. Ban, in turn, dancing his fingers down Ginji's back as he knew his friend loved, kissed him back with just as much intensity. They broke, sputtering for air under the rushing water, but only for a moment, as Ban grinned at Ginji, pressing him hard into the wall and kissing him yet again. The blood was pounding in Ginji's ears by now, and he was sure it wasn't simply the water. Moving as one unit without need for consultation, Ban turned the water off as Ginji reached to push the glass door open. Still kissing, they stumbled their way back to their new room without a single care for the trail of water left behind and tumbled onto the bed in a pile of arms and legs.
In Ginji's mind they were back on the warm sand of that beach under the summer sun, the crashing of the waves as the only backdrop to their mingled murmurs of each other's names. Hateshinaku sundasora wo motome...
